Gold, silver and precious stones: a high-quality piece of jewelry enhances any outfit. To make sure the jewelry looks its best, a fashionable combination and proper care are essential.

If you like to wear eye-catching gemstone jewelry, it's best to go for simple outfits with clear cuts. A black outfit with a few, but effective, jewelry accents looks particularly elegant.

Gemstones: Color Play for Eternity

It looks casual when the fine jewelry is combined with jeans and a blazer. The colors of the outfit should be subtle, but can certainly be reflected in the gemstones.

Since gemstone jewelry is particularly delicate, chemical agents should be avoided during cleaning and care. Under running, lukewarm water, any dirt should be gently removed with a soft toothbrush. Afterwards, the gemstones should be polished dry with a soft cloth.

More robust gemstones such as diamonds can be placed in lukewarm water mixed with detergent. After about five minutes of exposure, the pieces of jewelry can then be polished dry.

Gemstone jewelry should always be stored separately. The finely cut gemstones can otherwise scratch softer precious metals such as gold or silver.

By the way: Pearl jewelry is even more sensitive than gemstones. In addition to mineral components, pearls also contain organic substances that react particularly sensitively to alkalis and soaps. If you want to clean a pearl necklace, you should therefore definitely follow special care instructions.

Gold jewelry: Warm shine for subtle looks

Fine gold jewelry makes glamorous statements with understated outfits. Combined with dark clothing or warm earth tones, it looks particularly stylish. Rose gold looks young and light: the reddish color harmonizes with delicate pastel tones and light shades - and thus lends a girlish charm.

Women with a light complexion in particular benefit from this effect, as rosé makes light skin glow gently. If dark discolorations appear on the warm, shimmering precious metal, this is a completely natural aging process: Gold is combined with other metals during processingto achieve greater hardness and resistance.

These metals, in turn, react with sulfur particles that are found almost everywhere, in the air, in household chemicals or in cosmetics. Regular cleaning is essential to maintain the golden shine of the jewelry.

However, aggressive cleaners, coarse cloths or hard brushes should not be used: After all, gold is a very soft metal and therefore susceptible to scratches.

Discoloration can be gently removed with a few drops of detergent or soap. Simply place the gold jewelry in a bowl of warm water and place it in the water. After about 15 minutes, the discoloration can be rubbed off with a soft toothbrush.

Then rinse under lukewarm water and polish dry with a jewelry polishing cloth. A cloth made of deerskin or wool will give the jewelry a particularly intense shine.

To ensure that gold jewelry stays beautiful for a long time, it is best to store it in a lockable box - there the gold is protected from chemical particles in the room air.

Silver jewelry: cool charm with strong luminosity

Whether it's an elegant cocktail ring, a delicate necklace or playful charm: silver jewelry looks as light as it is fresh. Those who like to dress sportily can also wear their silver jewelry with casual outfits.

Silver accessories look particularly impressive when worn with clothing in cool colors. The bluish undertone of silver also perfectly underlines light skin tones. Just like gold, silver jewelry can also tarnish over time.

However, the black patina can be removed with simple household remedies: Slightly dirty silver jewelry is best cleaned with a soft toothbrush and soapy water, but aluminum foil and salt can also be effective.

To do this, a bowl is lined with aluminum foil and then filled with a few teaspoons of salt and hot water. If a tarnished piece of silver jewelry is then placed in the bowl, the aluminum will turn black in the water, while the silver jewelry will quickly shine again.

The piece of jewelry is then rinsed under running water and briefly polished with a soft cloth. To prevent discoloration, silver jewelry is best stored in a sealable plastic bag.
