A unique collection of five extremely rare and historically significant items Classic Ferrari for saleThe racing and road vehicles are currently for sale – and mark a turning point in the technological development of the legendary Italian brand.
The British supercar specialist Furlonger Specialist Cars, together with its Austrian partner Egon Zweimüller, presents the extraordinary collection “Scuderia '89 – The Pursuit for Paddle”.
It unites five models that trace the beginning of the era of semi-automatic paddle-shift transmissions – from the first Formula 1 prototypes to legendary road cars from Maranello.
Ferrari 639 F1
At the heart of the collection is the 1988 Ferrari 639 F1 (chassis #106) – the first Formula 1 car with paddle shifters on the steering wheel. This vehicle was built as a factory testbed for the new 3,5-liter V12 engine and marks the technological breakthrough that later went into series production.
The unique car remained in Ferrari's possession until 1999 and has since been comprehensively cared for by Ferrari Classiche.
Ferrari 640 F1
Another highlight is the 1989 Ferrari 640 F1 (chassis #110), which Gerhard Berger drove in several Grand Prix races. It was the first F1 car ever to compete in a World Championship race with a paddle-shift gearbox.
After its racing career, the car was fully restored, received Classiche certification and was awarded the Chairman's Trophy at the Pebble Beach Concours in 2025.

Formula 1 for the road
Also part of the collection are three impressive road vehicles that brought Formula 1 technology to the road:
◉ A 1989 Ferrari F40 – one of the most celebrated supercar models of all time, faithfully restored and painted in “Rosso Corsa”.
◉ A 1996 Ferrari F50 – one of only 25 built for the British market, with a 4,7-liter V12 engine and just 14.000 miles on the clock.
◉ A 1998 Ferrari F355 Spider – the first road model with *paddle-shift* technology, with only 5.500 miles on the odometer and a complete history.
“These vehicles define the beginning of a new era in which Ferrari transferred its Formula 1 expertise to road cars like never before,” explains Simon Furlonger, founder and CEO of Furlonger Specialist Cars.
Only as a package
Simon Furlonger: “The 639 and 640 models laid the foundation for the dominance in the Schumacher years of the early 2000s.”
The entire “Scuderia '89” collection is offered exclusively as a package and has an estimated total value of over 20 million pounds.
