Motorcycle tours along the German Timber-Frame Road promise exciting and enjoyable routes – and interesting sights everywhere.

The Half-Timbered House Road, with its eight regional routes, stretches for a total of around 3.900 kilometres and shows the way through more than 700 years of half-timbered history.

It leads past magnificent town halls and market squares, proud town houses and picturesque alleys.

Well over 100 half-timbered towns from Lower Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt, Saxony, Hesse, Rhineland-Palatinate, Thuringia, Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg have joined forces under the motto “Half-timbered houses connect”. All information is available at deutsche-fachwerkstrasse.de.

In cooperation with a major motorcycle magazine, the most beautiful tours were selected - from small round trips to multi-day travel experiences.

Maps at kurviger.de provide details of the route. There is at least one start and finish tour for each half-timbered town, so that a longer stay with an overnight stay is worthwhile.

Here are three tour suggestions across Germany.

1. Harz to Thuringian Forest. Tour suggestion: Start and finish in Stolberg. Length 233 kilometers.

Motorcycle-friendly small roads in the southern Harz and Thuringia ensure enjoyable and relaxed progress.

Listed half-timbered towns such as Stolberg, Bleicherode, Leinefelde-Worbis and Mühlhausen are just as popular as beautiful castles.

A highlight is the route from Mühlhausen back to Stolberg over the Kyffhäuser Mountains with the Kyffhäuser Monument.

2. Weserbergland via northern Hesse to the Vogelsberg and Spessart. Tour suggestion: Start and finish Hann. Münden. Length: 194 kilometers.

A beautiful tour along river landscapes such as the Werra Valley and along low mountain ranges.

There are also half-timbered towns with half-timbered styles from several centuries: Hann. Münden, Kaufungen, Melsungen, Spangenberg, Rotenburg ad Fulda, Eschwege and Bad Sooden-Allendorf.

In the cities you should take time for a city walk or a guided tour.

3. Franconia – Enjoyment with beer and wine. Tour suggestion: Start and finish in Königsberg in Bavaria. Length: 211 kilometers.

Low-traffic roads, leisurely curves, pretty half-timbered towns – that’s what characterizes this route.

There are many things to see and experience, such as traditional castles and palaces. On this route you can experience the diversity of Franconia and the half-timbered towns of Königsberg in Bavaria, Zeil am Main and Hofheim.

The region is known for its beer specialties, and the Franconian wine country is not far away. "Don't drink and drive" is of course the motto for all bikers during the ride.
