From active ingredients, promises of effectiveness and a whole host of experts who are guaranteed to launch their own brand.

The cosmetics industry in 2026 is like Beauty on Instagram after midnight: a never-ending stream of glow promises, clinically tested aesthetics and influencers who suddenly “formulate”.

What used to be a simple lip gloss is now called a "hydrating lipid barrier enhancer with an adaptogenic formula." And that's just the daily moisturizer. The rest is yet to come.

Expert without training

Whether dermatologist, skin type consultant or “skinfluencer with three years of immense retinol experience”: expertise today is just a question of online charisma.

And the affiliate links. What counts: aesthetic packaging, a story about a “personal skin journey” and a claim that sounds like it came from a noble French laboratory.

They say: "Our products work synergistically with your skin barrier to activate your natural cellular intelligence." Sounds good? It has to, because ultimately, no one should understand it.

The main thing is that it says "clean," "science-based," or "90% naturally derived" on the label. And please: never "organic." That's so disgusting and 2015...

Hyaluronic acid and hocus-pocus

The INCI list? Longer than some bachelor's theses. Full of active ingredients you should Google, but shouldn't, because: "Trust the brand!"

Retinol, Bakuchiol, Niacinamide, Hyaluron, peptides, and prebiotics. After all these applications, the skin no longer even notices which of these actually help.

But Instagram surveys show that 84% of people, with at least 100 followers, say it feels better than tap water. Guaranteed!

Philosophy for Navy Seals

What cosmetic brands are claiming today reads like lifestyle coaching from Berlin-Mitte. Or a boot camp for Navy Seals:

◉ “We empower your skin.”
◉ “We believe in radical transparency.”
◉ “We are against skin stress, for skin happiness.”
◉ “We rely on neurocosmetic mindfulness.”

Anyone who does not have their own purpose formulation or stab-proof clothing ready, is mercilessly covered by a self-care paste by the market.

Conclusion

Cosmetics in 2026 is a fascinating beauty biotope, brimming with science, wishful thinking, and a whole lot of well-being. The products look good and feel good.

Like Meghan Markle in her daily megalomania. And if it doesn't work? At least it was photogenic.

And a little crazy. There's no such thing as bad skin, just the serum jungle. Glowy and clean...
