Staying cool when it's over 30 degrees is a challenge. But if you adapt your beauty routine to the high temperatures and follow a few tricks when applying make-up, you can look fresh even when everyone else is sweating.

In summer, the Tops a different, less rich care than in winter - for this purpose, a change from a water-in-oil emulsion (the water molecule is surrounded by fat molecules) to an oil-in-water emulsion (the oil is surrounded by water molecules) is recommended.

These so-called O/W emulsions have a significantly reduced fat content and are therefore less occlusive, meaning the skin barrier is not "closed". Light oil-free moisturizers and a deep-acting serum are also ideal for maximum hydration for more freshness and glow.

For oily skin types prone to blemishes, a moisturizing gel with an antibacterial effect is a good choice. Active ingredients such as aloe vera, hyaluronic acid, glycerin, panthenol and ceramides are particularly skin-friendly and are quickly absorbed into the skin without weighing it down.

Not without sun protection

To protect the skin from UV light – the main cause of premature skin aging – a non-greasy, broad-spectrum sunscreen should always be applied to the face, neck and décolleté.

A day cream with SPF, a BB cream with SPF or a classic sunscreen for the face is a must. The perfume-free versions are recommended for sensitive skin.

If you are prone to pigmentation disorders, you can use a special sun protection face cream with an anti-pigment filter. By the way: the higher the sun protection factor, the better.

Skin cleansing is the order of the day

If your skin becomes red, irritated and has spots in midsummer, sweating may be the cause, as the salts and minerals it contains clog the pores. Bacteria then settle more quickly, which promotes blemishes and spots.

But a face cream that is too rich can also encourage pimples in warm weather, as it makes the skin too oily. To clear the complexion, the skin should be thoroughly cleaned every day with a mild cleansing gel. A mechanical peeling can help to remove dead skin cells.

It should be used once or twice a week. Inside, there are capsules that target blemishes, pimples, and oily skin, helping to maintain an even complexion.

Use less makeup

So that the skin can “breathe” well in the heat and high humidity, should not be used on days above 30 degrees Foundation or powder can be used.

Should this not be ideal – for example in the office or when in contact with customers – then non-comedogenic and mattifying products are an alternative.

"A BB cream is preferable to a highly covering foundation," emphasizes medical cosmetician and make-up artist Sandra Heidelberg. For the eye area, the expert recommends a waterproof mascara to avoid smudging as much as possible.

Boost microcirculation

Speaking of eyes: When it's very warm, this can encourage water to accumulate in the tissue. This also applies to the eye area. "Puffy eyes" in the morning are part of midsummer.

What helps? Chilled eye pads (with hyaluronic acid, green tea, caffeine) from the refrigerator to stimulate microcirculation. A massage with a Gua Sha tool or your own fingers also gets the lymphatic system flowing.

Very pleasant: thermal water spray from the fridge with the finest spray mist as a freshen-up. Now summer can come...
