New Orleans will soon be the first city to launch the national USA-Sail 250 event series. Hosted by New Orleans & Company and the Port of New Orleans.
From May 27th to June 1st, 2026, the Mississippi riverbank will be transformed into a floating stage for international warships and sailing vessels.
Kick-off of the America anniversary celebrations
When the United States celebrates its 250th anniversary in 2026, New Orleans will assume the role of the nation's maritime host.
The city on the Mississippi is the first stop worldwide to open the Sail 250 event series – a fleet event of international caliber, taking place as part of the nationwide America 250 celebrations.
For six days, from May 27 to June 1, 2026, tall ships, US warships and international naval vessels will dominate the riverbank between the Crescent City Connection Bridge and the Poland Avenue Wharf.
From the USCG Eagle to the fleet
The centerpiece of the fleet is the USCG Eagle – the only remaining active square-rigged sailing ship in the service of the US government.
It is accompanied by modern naval vessels from the United States as well as from Sweden, England, the Netherlands, Argentina, Chile, Ecuador, Peru, Colombia and Uruguay.
Free daily deck tours are offered to visitors – a unique insight into the maritime history and present of the participating nations.
Parade of Sail, fireworks and Blessing of the Fleet
The supporting program combines spectacle with tradition, as can be seen in the overview.
◉ May 27th and 28th: Parade of Sail – the ships entering the harbor.
◉ May 30: Fireworks along the riverbank.
◉ June 1: Blessing of the Fleet ceremony – the ceremonial conclusion.

In parallel, cultural institutions from across the city are participating: the National WWII Museum, The Historic New Orleans Collection, City Park and the Audubon Nature Institute are complementing the program with their own event formats.
New Orleans as a maritime gateway to the world
Walter Leger III, President and CEO of New Orleans & Company, emphasized the special importance of the city as the launch location.
New Orleans has always stood at the intersection of nations, ideas and maritime economy – as a cultural crossroads of the world and home port of one of the central trading gateways into the American interior.
After the kick-off in Louisiana, the Sail 250 tour will continue with further stops: Norfolk, Baltimore, New York City and Boston will continue the series until autumn.
