Glasses or contact lenses? From a fashion perspective, both have their advantages and disadvantages. Depending on the occasion, fashionistas prefer one or the other of the options. Both can even be perfectly combined with each other.
Many people need visual aids. What was considered a fashion flaw decades ago has long since become an expression of one's own personality. Today, thanks to more flexible materials, glasses are lighter, more comfortable, more stylish and more stable.
Easy handling
Contact lenses came onto the market much later. Here, too, there have been astonishing advances in recent years. Lenses are now available in annual, monthly, or daily versions. Contact lens care is now child's play.
What speaks for one or the other is – literally – in the eye of the beholder. We have taken a closer look at the advantages and disadvantages of both visual aids.
Glasses, the fashion accessory
Glasses must be able to do more than just regulate your eyesight. They should match your personal style and attitude to life. The wearer is faced with the question: should I choose an inconspicuous model or should I dare to make an extravagant appearance?
There is no question that, as long as there are not several models to choose from – and who has them anyway – one aspect is crucial: the wearer himself must feel comfortable with his glasses.
They become part of the face in both self-perception and external perception, and thus a true statement in terms of fashion awareness. The disadvantage: glasses usually accompany us for several years, so they could go out of fashion again after a while.
The contact lens, the invisible one
This is a problem that contact lens wearers don't have. The plastic lens is worn directly on the eyeball and is invisible to others. Therefore, it naturally goes with any outfit and can be combined in any way.
Since there are so many different versions available today, even sensitive people can find the right contact lens for them. They are the perfect companion in rain or shine and also when playing sports. They neither fog up nor are there any risks of injury during sporting activities.
One disadvantage could be that most contact lenses are not suitable for 24-hour wear. Many contact lens wearers therefore cannot completely do without glasses.
The combination: glasses and lenses
But this is not the only reason why a combination of both visual aids is recommended. To make a fashion statement, it is even a good idea to complement contact lenses with non-prescription glasses.
Especially when the sun is shining. That's when reaching for your sunglasses provides relief for your eyes. As an accessory used, the glasses become a piece of jewelry that you can never have enough of in your closet: matching every outfit!
